Case Study - Plant Room Floor 1
Client: XXXXX Hospital
Project Brief: The Coating of 1 No. Plant Room Floor above Orthopaedic Theatres 10-14
System Specification: Solvent Free Polyurethane
Completion Date: February 2012
COVAC Contract Ref: 1128
1 No. floor area that required the repair of various cracks, preparation and application of a waterproof membrane, which would also offer a tough, durable, easy clean surface, combined with the elongation properties required to cope with the potential structural movement usually associated with these types of floor areas. These images showed the condition of the floor, which had already allowed water ingress through when there was a recent accidental flooding of the plant room:
The floor areas before our work commenced, which ingress water into the opertating theatre below.
The floors were then prepared by COVAC Operatives, utilising floor grinders, leaving the area free from dust, loose material, surface contamination, and raising a suitable surface Profile for the application of the clear sealer.
Following preparation, damaged areas and cracks found within the concrete were later repaired. There were also areas of ‘wire’ protruding through the surface of the concrete which required cutting back.
All prepared areas of the floor were then vacuumed to be free of all dust and loose material and these images show the floors following a full application of Clear Sealer.
Marine Ply was attached to the bottom edge of each AHU to facilitate a firm, solid edge and these were later fully coated with the Covac System.
Minor repair work was carried out to the damaged and cracked areas found within the concrete floor, following preparation, combining both Clear Sealer and Trowel Grade Polyurethane.
Having been fully sealed and allowed to cure, all floor areas received a further three coats of Solvent Free Polyurethane Coating System. An initial coat, followed by two further coats.
