Legionnaire’s Disease Outbreak Hits Glasgow

Following on from our recent post detailing the effects of the Legionnaire’s outbreak on Edinburgh one year on, a town in the greater Glasgow area of Scotland has been hit by an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in recent days. At present there have been five confirmed cases of the disease with the town of Renfrew being identified as the source of the problem. Of the five cases, two are confirmed as living in the town whilst the three others are known to have either visited or worked in the area during the two week incubation period of the disease. Legionnaire’s Outbreak in Edinburgh- One Year On

This month, June 2013, marks the one year anniversary of the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak which gripped the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. With three deaths, more than 100 suspected or confirmed cases of the disease and thousands more who suffered some form of illness due to the bacteria, this was one of the worst outbreaks ever to hit the UK, with the repercussions still being felt today. Case Study- Cooling Tower Repair for Leading Supermarket Chain

Our latest case study sees us take a closer look at the repair work we completed on a large cooling tower for one of the UK’s leading supermarket chains. The tower had previously been electrostatically coated with a dry, polymetric hybrid thermosetting powder which had been fuse bonded to the substrate and had reached the end of its useful life, the client was keen to refurbish the tower rather than replace it for cost and environmental reasons hence their call to COVAC. Legionnaire’s Death Reported in South Yorkshire

Health officials in the South Yorkshire town of Doncaster are currently on high alert after one woman died and another man is currently recovering in hospital after an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease. No official details have yet been announced on the tragic death, however the woman was believed to be in her 60’s. Whilst no further cases have yet been found in the area, officials are encouraging anyone with potential symptoms to come forward as early as possible as environmental health officials investigate the possible source of the outbreak.
